Discover Ways To Work In Cincinnati Hair Salons

Two types of hair salons can be found in the Cincinnati area. The first type of salon usually only deals with hair care. Other salons offer a variety of services including hairstyling, skin care and manicures. The latter type of salon also provides job opportunities not just for hairstylists but also to people who want a job in the beauty industry but do not want to invest a lot of time and money into a hairdressing program. Look into the different employment opportunities available in Cincinnati hair salons to help your chances of becoming employed.

Be a cosmetologist. While a licensed cosmetologist usually devotes most of her time hairdressing, she is trained to work in all aspects of the beauty industry including skin and nail care. As such, a cosmetologist has to complete a long and comprehensive training program and take a state licensing exam. A cosmetologist is licensed to provide chemical services as well as hair cuts and coloring.

Work as a natural hairdresser. Unlike a cosmetologist, a natural stylist is not allowed to cut, color or provide chemical services. Therefore, natural styling training programs are substantially shorter than what is required of an aspiring cosmetologist. The focus is natural hairdressing. Services provided often include braids, twists, weaves and extensions. There are a some in this field that specialize in locking the hair. They sometimes call themselves locticians.

Become a nail tech. Nail techs do pedicures and manicures. Many nail technicians also do artificial nails. Nail tech training is also much shorter than what is required to be a cosmetologist.

Become an esthetician. An esthetician area of study is skin care. She spends her day giving facials, doing body and facial waxing and applies makeup for special occasions such as dances and weddings.

Consider becoming an apprentice. Apprentices train on the job as nail techs, estheticians, natural hairdressers or cosmetologists. They are also required to take a number of hours of classroom instruction. An apprenticeship provides a way for an individuals that want to work in the beauty industry but is unable to afford formal classes.

Apply for a receptionist position. Salon receptionists are usually the first person a client comes into contact with when he enters a salon. Receptionists are responsible for booking appointments, greeting clients, answering phones and completing other tasks as needed. A receptionist position may likely be the sole position in certain salons where formal training is unnecessary.

Become a salon manager. A licensed salon manager is responsible for the day to day operation of the salon. Depending on the salon, she may be in charge of scheduling, ordering supplies, payroll, resolving conflicts and employment decisions. Many salon managers are licensed cosmetologists.
